Direct Market Access (DMA)

What is Direct Market Access (DMA)?

Whether you are an investor, a broker or a vendor – the opening of Malaysia’s integrated derivatives and equities exchange can only mean one thing: opportunity.

DMA positions Malaysia on par with our Asian Pacific neighbours in terms of market access infrastructure. The market enjoys greater breadth and depth, and investors can look forward to being able to invest in multiple products across multiple markets.

So what exactly is DMA?

DMA is direct automated order routing to an execution venue. In simple terms, this means that when the investor keys-in an order via his broker there is no manual intervention – the system routes the order directly to the Exchange after a process of checks and validations. The investor thus has direct electronic access to our trading platform - Bursa Trade .

This is why it is also known as “zero-touch”.

The technology enabler for this is the open application protocol interface (Open API), the most common being the FIX Protocol.

To find out more about the processes, organisation, connectivity options and timelines, please refer to the DMA Handbook or you may want to explore the various sub sections found on this page.
